- Although most rulers during the Tang Dynasty were religion tolerant, there were two main religions during the Tang Dynasty: Buddhism and Confucianism. They were not the main religion at the same time.
- The citizens of the Tang Dynasty, for the most part, practiced Buddhism until about 845.
- After that, Confucianism became the main religion for the rest of the dynasty.
- Tang farmers were accomplished farmers, growing many goods for trading. Farmers in the north mostly grew wheat, while farmers in the south grew rice.
